“Lazy Day” Style

“Lazy Day” Style

It’s been another crazy week for me with client appointments, so when I had a day off yesterday and the weather was co-operating, I decided it was the perfect time to take a trip to the local park with my Son.

This particular park has an awesome playground and splash pad, so needless to say, it was full of Moms (and a few Dad’s) soaking up the fun with their kiddies, but there was one Mom that stood out.

In a good way.

I’m sure you have noticed this same woman before too (well, not the EXACT same woman unless you were at the same park as I was but the same “type of woman”). 🙂

She wan’t the prettiest, the thinnest, or even the most youthful – but she did stand out because she just looked effortlessly stylish. Without looking like she was trying too hard.

She was wearing a simple tank top with a pair of black yoga pants that had some ruching details down the sides of the legs, a pair of metallic Birkenstocks, and a straw fedora hat with a ribbon around it. Oh, and she was carrying a fun floral printed tote.

Simple but stylish.

I’m willing to bet you’ve admired the same type of woman before, right?

The one who always looks put together and cool, and super confident in her clothing.

YOU can be that woman!

Whether it’s at the park, picking up the kids from school, or running around doing your weekend shopping/errands…

You can look casually stylish without a lot of effort or looking like you’re trying too hard too!

Here are some of my fave ways to do it:

  • Go for a pair of fitted yoga pants/leggings with a cute longer top like a fun slightly off the shoulder style in a great colour/print or a simple tank with an open denim shirt over top.
  • Make sure one of the pieces are in a fun print or “great for you” colour. Depending on your shape and what you are comfortable with will depend on whether you go for a print/colour on the bottom or top half of your body.
  • If yoga pants aren’t your thing, a pair of jogger/drawstring pants with a cool fitted graphic tee or printed tank is a great option as well.
  • I would then add a simple chain necklace, lightweight scarf (if it’s not too hot), or a cool hat (like the stylish playground Mom) as a simple “finishing” piece.

A Fun Way To Plan Your Outfits

A Fun Way To Plan Your Outfits

I am BIG on planning! Especially when it comes to my wardrobe.

So I wanted to share with you a fun way to plan your outfits.

And no, it doesn’t involve deciding ahead of time what to wear the night before…it’s WAY cooler than that!

Watch the video below to get the scoop (it’s just over 4 minutes)…

What to Pack for a Weekend Away

What to Pack for a Weekend Away

Every time there is a holiday weekend coming up, I always get a question in my Style Society Facebook Group about what to pack for a weekend away.

So, I thought I would write this for everyone who has ever struggled with what to pack for a short vacation because chances are, if you’re heading out of town for just the weekend, you are probably driving.

With other people in the car.

Which means you can’t be taking up the entire trunk with your shoe collection and 5 pairs of skinny jeans!

So, you need to pack smart.

But how do you make sure you have “enough” without over doing it?

With a Capsule Wardrobe!

In case you haven’t heard of them before, a Capsule Wardrobe is a small collection of pieces that can be mixed and matched with one another to create a variety of looks.

I love Capsule Wardrobes for traveling, but I also use them in my everyday life because they have made my busy Mama & biz owner life so much easier!

And my one-one-one clients love them because they don’t have to worry about what to wear with what anymore, because everything in their Capsule Wardrobe goes together.

As you can imagine then, packing a mini Capsule Wardrobe for your weekend away is thesolution to making sure you have enough to wear in terms of variety, without having to worry about overpacking.

So, what exactly should you pack?

Well, it really does depend on your weekend plans, but I usually suggest a mix of the following:

3 seasonal specific bottoms, 4 tops, 1 jacket/layering piece, 2 pairs of shoes, and accessories like earrings, necklaces, belts, and a scarf.

So, it may look a little something like this…

A tip when building your first Capsule Wardrobe though…

I always suggest going with all solids on the bottom because it makes it easier to mix and match with prints on top.

That’s what I did with this sample Capsule Wardrobe and check out all the outfit combinations I was able to create using the above 8 pieces (plus accessories and footwear)!

That’s 12 looks!

Way more outfits than anyone would EVER need for a 3 day weekend!

What I like about Capsule Wardrobes for traveling is because so many of the pieces can be mixed and matched with one another, they give you so many outfit options – so you’re not tied to just wearing “that one top with that one bottom”.

I don’t know about you, but I like to be able to mix it up and create different looks depending on the mood I’m in.

Imagine if you could do this in your everyday life too and how much easier getting dressed would be?!

Sure, it does take some work to plan out your Capsule Wardrobe in the first place.

You have to figure out what to include, see what pieces you have to work with in your closet, and determine which new items you need to still buy to complete your Capsule Wardrobe.

But when you have a complete Capsule Wardrobe for the season, it makes getting dressed every day so much easier and you look great ALL. THE. TIME.

So, if you’re looking for less stress when it comes to getting dressed every day (and not just on holiday), make sure to check out my Effortless Style Kit

When you sign up, you get a downloadable Capsule Wardrobe Planner of the items needed to create a casual chic Capsule Wardrobe along with a Style Lookbook that will show you how to combine those pieces into dozens and dozens of head to toe looks.

Imagine…

– No more worrying about what you need in your wardrobe, what to wear, or what to buy.

– No more wondering if “this goes with that” (I’ve done it all for you).

– No more wasting money on clothes you never end up wearing because they don’t work with anything else in your wardrobe.

Getting dressed really doesn’t get any more effortless than this.

Want to build a Capsule Wardrobe? Use this as inspiration.

If you’ve taken part in my Effortless Style Kit program or even worked with me one-on-one, you know how much I love Capsule Wardrobes!

Now, if you’re new around here or are not familiar with what a Capsule Wardrobe is…

A Capsule Wardrobe is basically a smaller wardrobe of a set number of pieces (clothing, shoes, and accessories) that can be mixed and matched with one another to create a variety of looks.

Oh, and it makes getting ready in the morning SO. MUCH. EASIER.
#getdressedwithoutthestress

Now, in all transparency, my entire clothing collection is NOT one big Capsule Wardrobe – I like a clutter free closet but am not into hardcore minimalism either. Plus, I like more variety in my wardrobe.

Saying that though…

I do have a variety of mini Capsule Wardrobes within my overall wardrobe and I thought it might be fun to give you a little “sneak peek” at one of my own personal Capsule Wardrobes for Spring.

I created this particular Capsule Wardrobe using many items I already owned and then went shopping for some new on trend pieces that would work with them.

I always encourage this (using some of the fave pieces you already own, and then adding on with new pieces from there) with my one-on-one clients and the women in my Effortless Style Kit online program.

Okay, enough small talk already. Are you ready to see it?

Let’s start with the individual pieces first…

The Tops

I already owned the 2 on the top…the only newly purchased ones are the striped blouse with bell sleeves and the graphic t-shirt.

The Bottoms

With the bottoms, I already owned the white skinny jeans and skinny cargo pants – the only new purchase was the anchor print pants.

The Dress

This t-shirt dress was a new purchase…I wanted a dress that was as comfy as possible.

The Shoes & Accessories

I already owned all of these accessories, but the shoes are a new purchases for this season.

So, the only items I purchased for this new Spring Capsule Wardrobe were:

– 2 tops

– 1 pair of pants

– 1 dress

– 2 pairs of shoes

Yeah. That’s it!

So, ready to see how I styled these pieces into dozens of looks?

Check it out…

The Outfits

I don’t expect you were counting as you went along, but you just saw 33 different outfit combinations!

I really could have gone on and shown you more just by switching up the shoes and accessories even further, but I just wanted to give you the most basic idea of what you can do when you have a strategy behind shopping and building your wardrobe.

Imagine if I added a layering piece like a jacket, or added a skirt, or an additional top or pair of pants?

I could have easily doubled the number of outfits shown here!

So, what do you think?

Are you ready to try it out yourself?

I shared this Capsule Wardrobe with you to not only show you that you can take a small collection of clothing and create so many different looks with it (if you plan it out properly), but so you can use it as inspiration for creating your own Capsule Wardrobe.

Once you’re done building your own Capsule Wardrobe, I’d love for you to come on over to my FREE ‘Style Society’ Facebook Group (just click here to request to join) and show it to me! Or just come on over to get more inspiration for creating your first Capsule Wardrobe.

Not into DIY’ing it? I get that.

That’s exactly why I created the Effortless Style Kit!

It includes a Capsule Wardrobe Planner so you can put together a complete Capsule Wardrobe for the season + a Style LookBook showing you over 100 outfit combinations using the pieces from the checklist.

How To Make Sure You Always Have Something To Wear

How To Make Sure You Always Have Something To Wear

If you’re like most women, I am willing to bet you have at one point in your life said, “I have nothing to wear” while staring at a closet full of clothes.

Am I right?

While you obviously HAD things to wear, you probably felt…

Bored with your wardrobe.

Uninspired to mix and match your clothing into different outfits.

Clueless about what pieces you need to fill in the gaps to make getting dressed fun again (or for the first time ever!).

So, besides hiring a Personal Stylist to help you make the best use of what you have and go shopping with you to build a new wardrobe (which of course, I am always happy to help you do), there are some other things you can do on your own (or with just a little bit of my help), to solve your “nothing to wear” dilemma.

1. Get To Know Yourself

Don’t worry, I am not about to get all WOO WOO on you here (though I do love a little WOO now and then).

But what I’m talking about is understanding who you are when it comes to your personal style and getting dressed.

What styles of clothes do you like? Classic, Boho, Dramatic, all of the above?

What are your best (and favourite) colours to wear? Soft and light, deep and rich, bright and bold?

What cuts of clothing do you feel best in? Loose and flowy, super fitted, or somewhere in between?

THIS is the foundation of YOUR style and feeling confident in your clothing.

When you’re unclear on these things though, you end up buying pieces that you never end up wearing because they’re not really “you”, or the colour doesn’t work for you (or go with anything else in your wardrobe), or you feel like it doesn’t fit you just right.

That’s why the first key to having a wardrobe you love (and that loves you back!) is to get clear on all of these things.

If you need some help to figure it out, come on over and follow me on Pinterest to get lots of tips and inspiration.

2. Get Organized

Organization is a subjective thing, and when it comes to your wardrobe, it is such a personal thing.

For some people, organizing their wardrobe may mean sorting it by colour/shade.

For others it may mean organizing everything by type of item – shirts all together, pants all together, skirts all together, etc.

And for others, it may mean organizing by season and lifestyle.

It doesn’t matter how you choose to organize your wardrobe though – what matters is that you find a way that works FOR YOU.

Not only so that you can see exactly what you have and what you need, but so you’ll also have an easier time choosing the pieces to put your outfits together on a daily basis.

By the way, if you’re looking for some really fun and unique ideas for organizing your wardrobe, check this out.

3. Get Planning

Putting some effort into planning your wardrobe ahead of time is probably THE MOST IMPORTANT (yet underestimated) tool when it comes to taking the stress out of getting dressed.

Now, I want to be clear here…

I am not taking about putting your clothes out the night before.

Even I don’t like to do that, and I verge on the OCD side of planning!

Honestly, who knows what you’re going to be in the mood to wear the next day?!

When I say “Get Planning”, what I’m talking about is styling on purpose and shopping with a plan.

Also know as creating a Capsule Wardrobe.

The idea behind a Capsule Wardrobe is that you have a set number of pieces grouped together that can all be mixed and matched with one another to create a variety of outfits for a particular season and/or lifestyle (work, weekend, going out, etc.).

If you want to see it in action, you can click here for some Wardrobe Capsule inspiration.

Now, I’m not going to lie…

To create a wardrobe of pieces that can be mixed and matched with one another to create a good variety of looks does take some time and effort.

You have to decide what you want to use from your current wardrobe, figure out what you need to “fill in the blanks” to create more outfits and variety, and then create a shopping plan to make it happen and pull it all together.

But…

Doing that work at the beginning of a season is the fastest way to having effortless style because it makes getting dressed each day afterwards so much easier and stress free.

Sounds awesome, right?

Now, if you feel like you just don’t have the brain power, style know how, or even the desire to create your Capsule Wardrobe all by yourself, then I can do it for you with my Effortless Style Kit program (cue the sound of angels singing…HA HA).

Dozens of women have already signed up and made getting dressed and shopping so much easier on themselves, and we would love for you to join us!

Here is what one Effortless Style Kit member had to say about joining the program…

If you want to hear more testimonials from other women who have taken part, you can read them over here and if you think the Effortless Style Kit sounds like a solution to your style stress (Spoiler Alert – IT IS!), I hope you’ll join us!

Either way, I truly hope the tips and links I shared above will help you stop stressing about what to wear and feel more confident in your clothes because that is all I want for you – and every woman.

In the meantime…

Happy Styling!

How To Wear: Denim with Denim

How To Wear: Denim with Denim

Some call it the ‘Canadian Tuxedo‘ or the ‘Texas Tuxedo‘.

But whatever you want to call wearing denim with denim, it’s one of those looks that when done right, can look super cool.

When it’s wrong though, it’s REALLY wrong.

So, how do you make sure you’re wearing denim with denim correctly?

Here are some of my top tips…

how to wear denim with denim, denim shirt with jeans, texas tuxedo, canadian tuxedo

1) Make sure that your two denims are different shades.

They don’t have to be drastically different, but one should be obviously darker than the other so it doesn’t look like you were trying to perfectly match the two.

2) To up the cool factor, go for a juxtaposition and make sure your denims have opposing styles.

That means if you are wearing a more distressed looking pair of jeans, wear a dressier denim shirt, layers, and accessories.

3) Lastly, don’t forget to break it up.

Add in some other colours, textures, and prints with your footwear, belts, scarves, vests, jewellery, etc.
