How To Wear: Denim with Denim

How To Wear: Denim with Denim

Some call it the ‘Canadian Tuxedo‘ or the ‘Texas Tuxedo‘.

But whatever you want to call wearing denim with denim, it’s one of those looks that when done right, can look super cool.

When it’s wrong though, it’s REALLY wrong.

So, how do you make sure you’re wearing denim with denim correctly?

Here are some of my top tips…

1) Make sure that your two denims are different shades.

They don’t have to be drastically different, but one should be obviously darker than the other so it doesn’t look like you were trying to perfectly match the two.

2) To up the cool factor, go for a juxtaposition and make sure your denims have opposing styles.

That means if you are wearing a more distressed looking pair of jeans, wear a dressier denim shirt, layers, and accessories.

3) Lastly, don’t forget to break it up.

Add in some other colours, textures, and prints with your footwear, belts, scarves, vests, jewellery, etc.

How to Wear: A Kimono

How to Wear: A Kimono

In case you haven’t noticed, Kimono’s have been around for a few seasons now and there is a reason why.

Not only do they come in a variety of prints that you’re sure to find one to suit your personal taste, but they come in so many different styles that there is one for every body type – billowy, straight, cropped, medium length, and long.

But Lisa, “What do you wear with a Kimono?” you may be asking.

Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered!

From weekend casual to evening dressy (and a new way you probably never considered before!), there are so many ways to wear your Kimono.

#1: With shorts & a tank top

This is such an easy way to take your basic easy breezy weekend Summer look up a notch.

Add a colourful kimono to your jean shorts & tank top combo, throw on some cute sandals, add some playful accessories, and you are good to go!

Of course, this look is just as cute with full length jeans as well in case you’re not into the jean short thing.

#2: Over top of a fitted dress

I really love this look because it’s super sexy but in a modest way.

The sheerness of the Kimono gives a peek at your silhouette, but the flowy nature of the Kimono also conceals at the same time.

LOVE THAT!

#3: To cover up your workout wear

I can’t take credit for this one – it was suggested by someone in my Style Society Group on Facebook (which you should totally come and join by the way…it’s FREE and so much fun!).

She posted a pic of herself in her Kimono saying that because she works out so much and is in her yoga pants and tanks so often, she grabbed some Kimono’s to throw over top to dress up her look when she’s running straight from her workouts to do some errands.

Cool idea, right?

So, there you have it!

Now you have 3 ways you can get in on this new wardrobe staple.

Which, by the way is super affordable as well (I have two Kimono’s and paid no more than $40 for both).

Seriously, they are so fun and easy to wear.

Happy Styling!

Three Fall Trends That Come Back Year After Year

Three Fall Trends That Come Back Year After Year

Holy Moly – it’s September already!

While some people may already be mourning the soon to be end of Summer, I am actually super excited! Why?

Fall happens to be my absolute FAVE time of year.

I love the weather, the changing colours on the trees, but most of all, I LOVE the Fall clothing!

I’m not sure if you’ve been in the stores lately, but the Fall fashions are already arriving and I’ve been drooling over them the past couple weeks while out shopping with my clients.

And some of them may look very familiar…

These are the Fall trends that seem to come back year after year.

Whether you’re into all of them or just one, there is something here for everyone with lots of different ideas on how to wear each one.

So, let’s get to it!

Plaid:
Sexy, edgy, or classic…plaid has the power to create all three vibes depending on how you wear it.

Some of my favourite options are a fitted pencil skirt (sexy), a cool lumber print plaid jacket (edgy), or a simple plaid scarf (classic).

Fringe:
Though it may seem fringe is primarily a Boho type trend, there are so many ways you can make this work for you no matter what your personal style is.

Do it with a handbag, shoes, or go all out Boho with a funky vest.

Burgundy: This is a colour of that returns EVERY Fall season.

It’s also one of those colours that look great on many skin tones – so if that’s you, go for it in a pretty sweater or blouse.

If you’re not sure if it’s one of your best colours, go for a pair of skinny pants or a pair of shoes in burgundy.

So, what do you think?

Can you see yourself wearing at least one of these Fall trends?

Trends get a bad rap sometimes, like they are cheap or fast fashion, but really, they are just about being “current” and a way to have fun with fashion and change your wardrobe up season to season -without having to start from scratch.

So, I hope you’ll give at least one of them a try this season if you haven’t already.
