AHHH…the denim shirt.
You most likely have one (or more) in your closet already.
But if not, after reading this post you’re going to want to run out and grab one! 🙂
A denim shirt is a wardrobe staple.
Not only is it a classic that will never go out of style, but you can wear it in so many ways to create such different looks (perfect for different personal styles).
Here are some of my personal favourite ways to style it…
1) With a skirt: The key here is making sure the shirt is fitted, otherwise it will look sloppy.
And you probably want to go with a fuller skirt to avoid bunching of the shirt underneath a skirt that is too tight.
As well, you will most likely want to place a belt over the waistline of the skirt where it meets the shirt for a clean look.
Then open up the neckline, add a necklace, cuff the sleeves, and you are good to go.
2) With contrasting denim: Yes, denim with denim can go very wrong very quickly.
But when done right, it can look SO cool.
The first is to make sure the two denims are contrasting shades and if possible, contrasting weights of fabric.
The other thing that helps to avoid the “Canadian Tuxedo” look is to break it up.
What I mean by that is…
Breaking up the two denims with a layer underneath (and wearing the denim shirt open) or a layer over top… like a cool vest.
3) With super feminine details: Up the girly factor by adding super feminine elements to the rest of your outfit.
Whether it’s a sparkly necklace, a pretty angora cardigan, a pair of heels, or all of the above!
If so, I’d love to hear all about them so make sure you come on over to my Facebook Group and let me know!
