THE WARDROBE REFRESH PROCESS

1. You fill out my online Style Assessment so I can get to know more about you.

2. Depending on where you’re located, we’ll meet (either at your home or via video conference) so we can get to know one another better and we can over your answers in your Style Assessment in more detail.

3. I’ll then have a peek at your wardrobe to get an idea of what you have been wearing, find out from you what you like and what you don’t like, and then make a plan with you for refreshing your wardrobe for the current season (for your professional OR personal life). This means I’ll be letting you know ahead of time what pieces I think you need and where I think we should shop because I want you to be totally comfortable every step of the way and know what is going on.

Sidenote: Please be wary of anyone who says they can help you with your style and wardrobe, but has never met you. No one can effectively shop for you without seeing your current wardrobe ahead of time, getting to know who you are on the inside, who you want to become, your lifestyle, and your unique characteristics (inside and out). This is why Personal Styling is SO personal and much more effective than working with a Personal Shopper employed by a specific store or other retail location.

4. I will start doing my research and begin pre-shopping at various stores, boutiques, and malls throughout the city a week before our actual shopping date. I don’t want to limit your wardrobe options to just one store or even one mall, so I travel all over the city to find the perfect pieces for you. I then bring it all to my private suite so it is all organized and on display for you when you arrive for your shopping session.

5. When you show up to the suite, you can get comfy and slip on some cushy slippers as I get you your favorite drink and tell you about all the items I have gathered for you and why.

6. Then it’s time to play dress up as you try on everything in your private changeroom within the suite & check yourself out in the 3 way mirror while getting my feedback about what’s working for you and what isn’t.

7. As you try everything on, I’ll also be organizing everything based on “must haves”, “maybes”, and “no ways” (which you and I will decide on together of course). During my pre-shopping, I often grab multiple sizes of each item, but if there is something that’s not quite fitting qute right and you want to try another size, my assistant will run to the store and grab us another size.

8. When you’re done trying everything on, we’ll decide together what you should purchase and what can go back to the stores. Then my Assistant will gather all the clothes and accompany us to the stores so you can purchase the pieces you love and leave the rest behind!

9. You go home and get to start wearing your amazing new pieces and outfits and feeling more confident and beautiful than you have ever felt in your life!

Lisa, you have such a bigger message than just “here are some clothes to wear” (I could probably google that and find that out). I love that your work as a Personal Stylist is so much more than that – it’s about confidence and how it effects how we’re contributing to the world and really showing up (for ourselves and others).

I don’t think fashion is frivalous is anymore and I love how you have re-framed how I think about clothing. It’s not about spending a ton of money on clothes or spending all my time thinking about what I’m wearing, it’s more internal. It’s a way to take care of myself.  

I talk alot in my business about that airplane mask analogy and how we have to take care of ourselves before we can take care of others, and this has showed me and reminded me that it doesn’t have to take that much time to take better care of myself. And what I wear is a big part of that.

FAQ’s

Are all Personal Stylists the same?

Hmmm…are all Hair Stylists the same?

Don’t you hate when someone answers a question with a question? 🙂

Seriously though, you know the saying “You get what you pay for”?

Well, you could pay absolutely nothing and go to your local department store or shopping mall and work with a “Personal Shopper” there who makes all (or at least the majority of) their income based on how much you purchase, leaving you questioning whether or not their advice was really objective. And of course, limiting the selection of clothing you get to choose from.

Or you could take it a step above that and hire a self employed Personal Stylist/Personal Shopper who you’ll only meet for the first time on your actual shopping day. Someone who has never sat down to get to know you ahead of time or has seen your current wardrobe (the good and the bad), who will then spend the set number of hours you have hired them for trying to get to know you along the way while taking you from store to store. If you’re lucky, they may be able to show you some pieces that are good for you based on your “best colours” or body shape. 

Don’t get me wrong…there’s nothing “wrong” with this type of Personal Stylist and you’ll likely walk away with some fun new pieces you may have never considered before. But in all honesty, you could likely get the same end result for free if you found some well experienced retail sales staff.

Plus, when you get those “fun new pieces” home, then what? How do you wear them? What do you wear them with? How do you add to them in the future?

Now, if you’re looking for a higher level of service and transformation, with an experienced Personal Stylist & Image Consultant who is going to put in the time wanting to really get to know you, review your current wardrobe, create a strategic plan for making over your style and wardrobe, and support you throughout the entire process and beyond, then I’m your girl.

There is alot of work involved in what I do that comes before and after the actual shopping day – including research, pre-shopping, clothing returns, and then some. And for that reason, I don’t charge by the hour. My package pricing is based on the successful end result my client gets and the ease and speed at which I help her get there.

How many outfits will I have by the end of this and how much will I have to spend?

That varies depending on the client.

I have worked with women who only wanted to spend $500 on clothing and others who were prepared to spend up to $5000.

During the initial process of getting to know you, we will discuss your overall budget and your comfort level with different prices points, and I promise to always stay within those parameters.

In terms of how many outfits or pieces you will have by the end of this, again, that depends on budget but the average client will walk away with between 10 – 12 new outfits (maybe more if some of the new pieces can also be mixed into your current wardrobe).

How long does this service take from beginning to end?

Between the “getting to know you” period and the actual trying on of clothes during our shopping day, the amount of time you and I will be spending together will be between 5-6hrs (which will be split between 2 seperate days).

Because I like to make this as enjoyable and stress free as possible for the client though, the majority of hours and work will be done by me before and after our shopping day (research, planning, pre-shopping, clothing returns, styling notes & resources, etc.).

What if I don't like anything you pick out for me?

Great question!

I am proud to say I have been doing this work since 2008 and have worked with hundreds of women since that time, and this has never happened.

I will be completely honest with you though…

I can count on one hand the number of times I have worked with a client who didn’t end up with as many items as she had intially hoped to get.

The common denominator among that handful of women though, was that they were dealing with body image issues that could not simply be erased with a “magic dress” or “secret style of pants”. There were much deeper body image issues going on.
